It was a sad way for him to go out even though it was very poetic.  It fit him, even if you hated him for doing it.

But why all this talk of Thompson, he’s been dead for years.  He has, but as he left his parting words, so has Scott Fayner, once Hustler writer turned drugged out porn gossip magnate.  At his peak he was arrested while naked in a ditch with some pornstars while strung out on whatever his drug of choice was at the time.  But after much reflection, he has too left this life…  well the life of porn at least and to me this is a sad day.

These were his parting words, albeit far less poetic than Thompson’s.

“I’ve given up. There’s no use anyways, ’cause none of it does any good. I’ve known that for a long time, but for some reason kept on pushing with it…. So I got to thinking: Hey, why not start a dog magazine here in Boston?… So I am. It’s called Mass Arf. It’ll be an on-line magazine… Not sure there’s any point keeping this site any longer since I’ll be so damn busy, but we’ll see. I’ll talk it over with my new wife and let you know real soon.”

Ok, so I did some creative editing to emphasize the absurdness of it all.  It leaves me sad.  I should write more about it but as Fayner himself said, “There’s no use anyways, ’cause none of it does any good.”
